The second day of racing at 4 Jours de Dunkerque saw much sunnier conditions for the peloton as they rolled out of Wimereux this afternoon. A controlled start saw a three rider breakaway escape with all Team dsm-firmenich PostNL riders in the bunch, focusing on bringing things back together for a sprint in the finale. Enzo Leijnse helped to contribute to the chase throughout the day and the break was brought back coming towards the final ten kilometres. The battle for position was fierce but the rest of the squad rallied around finisher Casper van Uden. Last lead-out man Nils Eekhoff saw a gap and surged forward with Van Uden in his wheel at around 700 metres to go, dropping Van Uden off in second wheel. Unfortunately, Van Uden got swamped a little bit and couldn’t open up his sprint in the finale to go for a result.
Speaking after the stage Van Uden expressed: “The boys worked really hard throughout today and into the final. We did a good job and went into the final few hundred meters in a good position with Nils bringing me forward, but unfortunately I got stuck on the inside and couldn’t launch my sprint at all. It’s disappointing after the good work from the guys but we will keep trying.”
