The final day of action at 4 Jours de Dunkerque saw a controlled sprint stage, where the peloton always kept the breakaway in check. With the kilometres ticking by they reeled in those ahead and a fast finale was set up. Riding well as a unit throughout the day, Team dsm-firmenich PostNL looked after fast finisher Casper van Uden, keeping him safe and in position as the local laps ticked by. Things became more hectic through the numerous twists and turns as the finish line approached. Heading towards the flamme rouge John Degenkolb brought Van Uden forward, dropping him off in a good position towards the front of the bunch. In sight of the line Van Uden kicked as hard as he could, taking sixth place on the day.
After the stage Van Uden said: “We knew the local circuit would be hectic as there were a lot of corners in the course. We stayed well together to the front and out of danger throughout the day. The boys were able to put me towards the front ahead of the sprint and from then it was just over to legs in the finale.”
