The peloton rolled out for the start of the 13th edition of the Tour of Oman as they awaited a fast day on the mostly flat parcours. For almost the whole day, Team dsm-firmenich PostNL’s Men’s program rode strongly at the front of the bunch, controlled the race and chased down several attacks. The early breakaway of five riders was kept on a tight leash and eventually caught back at ten kilometres to go. Coming into the deep finale, Fabio Jakobsen wasn’t able to fully open up his sprint, leading the team home in 10th position.
After the stage, Jakobsen commented: “It was a good first day in terms of teamwork. The guys did a good job keeping me safe and they did some massive pulls to bring back the break. At one kilometre to go, the guys positioned me well at the front of the peloton, but I was squeezed a bit in the chaos and couldn’t really open up my sprint. Even though the result needs to be better, we are satisfied with the teamwork so we are looking forward to the coming opportunities and we are convinced the results will come.”
