The second day of racing at Giro Ciclistico della Valle d’Aosta saw the peloton take on a 128 kilometre long route from Verrès to Borgofranco d’Ivrea. The action was on from the start and the attacks flew from the peloton. Unfortunately, Robbe Dhondt and Oliver Peace were involved in an early crash, with the former ultimately stopping the race. As things continued a break formed out front but ahead of the final climb of the day they were reeled in by the peloton before a new group formed out front, which would ultimately go on to take the win. Peace tried to attack on the top of the climb to bridge to the leaders but he was closed in by the chasing peloton. Peace, Ryan Gal and Vincent Bodet would go on to finish safely within the peloton.
Speaking after the stage Peace said: “It was another really hot day. We unfortunately lost Robbe early in the stage due to a crash. I was also involved in it, but I could come back quite easily. The race was on all day really. I tried an attack over the top of the final climb but Intermarche were in control too much and shut it down. In the end, Vincent, Ryan and I came home in the main group but we couldn’t do much in the sprint. Onto tomorrow and another big day of climbing.”
