Stage three at the Giro Ciclistico della Valle d’Aosta saw another explosive day of action, with two challenging climbs coming in the second half of the day. It was hot and fast from the flag drop with a breakaway eventually going clear. In the peloton, Ryan Gal and Mees Vlot positioned their Team dsm-firmenich PostNL teammates Oliver Peace and Vincent Bodet going into the first main climb of the day, Verrogne. On that ascent the peloton already blew to pieces so Peace and Bodet rode together at their own tempo, not wanting to go into the red. From there, they took on the descent and following climb together, all the way to the finish in Pré Saint Didier.
Speaking after the stage Peace said: “It was another really hot day in the mountains. Ryan and Mees did a good job with positioning us into the first big climb then me and Vincent just tried to ride at our own pace. It was more of the same on the next climb and from there we rode down to the finish together.”
