The penultimate stage of Le Tour de Langkawi, on paper, looked like another opportunity for the fast men, as the 199 kilometres only featured one climb throughout the day. It has been a controlled day, with the peloton keeping the group of the day close and ensuring that none of the counterattacks in the final moments gained a significant gap. Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL helped to set the pace in the finale and entered the final kilometre in a perfect position. They got a bit swamped at the end, and Casper van Uden sprinted to a solid nineth place on the day. With only one more stage to come, Max Poole defended his lead in the general classification once again and enters the final day as the race leader.
Van Uden said: “We tried again to keep Max safe for the GC, which went well. We were looking quite good in the final two kilometres, but it didn’t quite work out in the sprint. We are ready for one more shot in the sprint tomorrow and want to bring home the GC with Max.”
