After yesterday’s stage had been overshadowed by a heavy crash with 20 kilometres to go, Team dsm-firmenich PostNL looked to bounce back at today’s sixth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. Fortunately, all Team dsm-firmenich PostNL riders that had hit the ground yesterday were cleared to start today’s stage and could take on the 174.1 kilometres towards Le Collet d’Allevard. The team rode well together until the bottom of the final climb, where they dropped Warren Barguil in a good position. Unfortunately, he had to let it go with six kilometres to go and rode his own pace towards the finish line.
After the stage, Barguil said: “Today we saw a mountaintop finish to decide the sixth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. My legs felt okay all day and the guys put me in a good position towards the bottom of the last climb. I went full for the first four kilometres, but then I completely exploded and rode my own pace in the final. I don’t really know why and I am disappointed because this was not what I expected from today. We still have two stages to come and I will have an eye on the breakaway now and try to bounce back and go for a nice stage result.”
