A rainy day out in Brittany played host to the GP du Morbihan on Saturday afternoon, with a hilly parcours on the menu and a punchy drag to the line. Team dsm-firmenich PostNL were active in following several of the attacks that went after the original breakaway was caught, with Casper van Uden, Sean Flynn and John Degenkolb particularly prominent. However, coming into the finale the pace ramped up and the final attackers were brought back on the last two kilometre climb, with the puncheurs ultimately fighting for the stage win, as Van Uden led the team home.
Van Uden expressed: “The plan was to go for Sean and me in the final so the guys looked after us well throughout the day. On the local laps we were always well positioned at the front. In the end it was a hard pace and it was down to the legs on the climbs. On the last climb I just didn’t have anything left to go for it in the final, but I think we can look back on some good teamwork and we have another chance tomorrow.”
