A new look Ronde van Drenthe saw the peloton take on a large lap circuit but instead of finishing in the town of Hoogeveen as in previous years, the race would finish atop the infamous VAM-berg this time round. Riding well as a unit, Team dsm-firmenich PostNL set out to stay safe in any potential crosswinds and were always present in numbers at the very front of the splits when they occurred. Coming onto the penultimate passage of the VAM-berg some strong team riding saw Pfeiffer Georgi and Charloote Kool well positioned as they made a front group of around eight over the top. Yet, the headwind conditions and a committed chase saw them brought back. Ultimately, there wouldn’t be any more splits and the race came down to one last blast up the ascent. The team moved forward well en masse, before Georgi strung things out with Kool in tow. Unfortunately, Kool just missed the kick to follow the best on the ascent, with her and Georgi crossing the line one after each other, in tenth and 11th place.
Speaking after the race Georgi said: “We were really sharp and in position all day with the narrow roads and potential echelons and were where we needed to be with the attacks on the last lap. The whole team did a really strong job in the lead-out, and unfortunately it just didn’t work out today but we can take real confidence with how we rode the whole race.”
