For one final time this season, the Men’s program of Team dsm-firmenich PostNL took on the flemish cobbles and hills at the Ronde van Vlaanderen. The race offered everything needed for a spectacle – incredible fast racing, cobbles, hills, and rainy conditions. Our guys did a great job with positioning towards the key points at the early stages of the race and covered where present in the front when the race split over the first climbs. When the race blew up, they just didn’t have the legs to follow the very best today, but they showed a brave fight all the way to the finish line.
After the race, John Degenkolb commented: “Today was my first ever Ronde van Vlaanderen in wet conditions, making it a special edition. As always, it was very chaotic, but we did quite well as a team with positioning towards the crucial points, especially in the first part of the race. At one point my legs were just not good enough to be with the strongest guys. But my overall shape is good and races are coming up, that suit me better than this one.”
