Today, Development Team dsm-firmenich PostNL took on another punchy and hilly stage at Tour de Bretagne. When the early breakaway was caught back, attacks flew from the peloton, and in the final 20 kilometres, the final move went clear. Our guys kept fighting in the chasing peloton, which came close to the front group again in the hectic final, but they could hold off by four seconds. Thom van der Werff escaped the crashes in the slippery final corner and led home the team in 16th position.
Van der Werff said: “Today was a long day again. When we entered the local circuit, we aimed for a nice stage result with Vlad. Unfortunately, there went a break in the very deep final so we couldn’t sprint for the win anymore. We were with three guys well positioned for the bunch sprint and I could just avoid the crash on the final straight and sprint to 16th place. Vlad unfortunately got involved in the crash but luckily he seems to be okay. We are looking forward to another chance tomorrow.”
