The penultimate day of racing at the Tour de Bretagne saw the peloton take on a typical parcours for the region, which featured a rolling local circuit in the finale with several short kickers to tempt the attackers. It was a fast start to the stage with lots of attacks, and eventually a break went clear while all Development program riders remained in the bunch. Some strong chase work from Ryan Gal helped to keep those ahead at bay and in the end a reduced group sprint was set up with the breakaway caught. It was a chaotic and fast finale, as the team looked to position Vlad Van Mechelen but he unfortunately got held up in the last kilometre. Thom van der Werff who was helping with the positioning work, managed to weave his way through the group to take a good eight place at the finish.
After the stage Van der Werff expressed: “Today was a long stage again. We were really aware for some moves in the hilly zone with most of the guys up in the front of the group. While entering the local lap the early break still had a gap but the boys did an amazing job chasing down the break with some other teams and prepared for the sprint. We tried to get Vlad into the perfect position to sprint for the victory but unfortunately he got hindered in the tricky last kilometre. I was still in a good position through the last corner and could bring a top ten spot home for the team.”
