This year’s edition of the Tour de Romandie kicked off today with a technical 2.3-kilometre prologue in Payerne. After a good setup by the staff, the guys from Team dsm-firmenich PostNL showed solid rides, coming through the day without any problems and had a fine start into the week, with Emils Liepins being the fastest of the team finishing 14th.
After the prologue, Liepins said: “Today’s technical parcours suited me really well and I thought it could be a nice opportunity for me. I maybe was a bit too motivated and made a small mistake in the second corner. In the end, I think that corner cost me the podium today because in a short race like this you pay for every little mistake. I still was not that far back, but the outcome was not what I hoped for. But now we switch our focus to tomorrow and go for a good result there.”
