The second day of racing at the Tour Down Under saw a potentially explosive stage, but the peloton approached the day in a more controlled manner with only a small group going clear. Team dsm-firmenich PostNL looked after GC finisher Oscar Onley ahead of the final climb, where the peloton reduced in size. Over the top, Onley and Chris Hamilton helped position Sean Flynn; who was the team’s first rider home in the reduced sprint.
Speaking after the stage Flynn said: “Despite the hard climbs on the route, the race was pretty calm and controlled until the final climb of the day. Our main objective was to keep Oscar safe and well positioned. In the end there wasn’t really any differences made on the climb and we had the opportunity to try and sprint, but after the really hard effort on the climb I just missed the power to be in the position to fight for a top result, but I’m satisfied with how I was feeling today.”
