After yesterday’s day in the break, it was sad to say goodbye to Ryan Gal whom unfortunately had to abandon the race following a crash early on in the stage. We wish Ryan a speedy recovery!
Thom van der Werff meanwhile, took a leaf out of Ryan’s book spending stage 2 in the break with 5 others. Whilst in the break, Thom contended the KOM’s on offer taking points for 2nd at the la côte du Faussé au Leu, crossing the line 3rd at the côte d’Aubigny-les-Pothées and taking maximum points at the summit of the la côte de Marby. In addition to sprinting to second at the first intermediate sprint at Maubert Fontaine.
Thom had this to say, “It was a nice day in the breakaway. Unfortunately our 130km break was caught when we entered the last 18km lap. But it was very nice to show the dsm-firmenich PostNL jersey at the front of the race again!”
Coach, Asbjørn Kragh Andersen said “The boys did really well and we all got some confidence from the last two days. We wanted to be part of the race and we have been. Overall it was a really strong ride from the whole team with Oliver and Robbe finishing in the top 30 in the end.”
