Stage 3 of Tour de Suisse and the team were on the defensive to protect Juliette Labous’ 5th place on the GC. A breakaway of 5 were up the road for the majority of the day. Heading onto the final climb of the day, the Route de Champagne, Labous was positioned on the front of G2 with 15.5km to go, and all looked good, until Vollering attacked and took other members of the GC top 5 with her. Juliette then found teammate Nienke Vinke in group 4. Juliette Labous crosses the line 15th.
Coach Albert Timmer had this to say about the stage: “Sadly we missed the break of the day, where we had hoped to have a rider in. With about 40km to go we tried to make the race a bit harder, specifically with the last climb in mind.” Juliette and Nienke sat on the front of their group, but unfortunately “Juliette blew up a bit on the climb. But that’s part of cycling. We saw some good commitment from the girls to make it a nice race for us.”
Unfortunately, Labous falls out of the top 5 in the GC, now sitting 7th overall with 1 stage remaining on this Tour de Suisse Women.
