Team dsm-firmenich PostNL sprint to incredible 1-2 finish at Tour of Türkiye

Team dsm-firmenich PostNL made it back-to-back wins at the Tour of Türkiye, and claim their third victory of the week so far, with an incredible 1-2 finish on stage five of the race with Tobias Lund Andresen and Fabio Jakobsen.

Continuing their exceptional form, Team dsm-firmenich PostNL aimed for more sprint success today as they rolled out of the start town. Ensuring a controllable breakaway went clear, the team helped set the pace early on before other squads took over as they looked to push the pace on the ascents. The bunch didn’t split though and the orange-striped squad moved forward en masse as they approached the final five kilometres. Aiming to sprint with Jakobsen as finisher, it was an incredibly hectic finale as the road twisted and turned on the downhill, so when seemingly a little out of position the call came on the radio from Jakobsen for Lund Andresen to go for it. Using great tactical awareness, Lund Andresen let a few riders in front of him so he didn’t open the sprint too early; and in the end this put Jakobsen almost back onto his wheel. Launching with incredible speed to the line, Lund Andresen came past everyone while Jakobsen followed perfectly, locked-in on in him. With the finish gantry almost overhead Jakobsen sat up first to celebrate, just before Lund Andresen did the same; rounding out a brilliant day for Team dsm-firmenich PostNL.

An elated Lund Andresen explained: “It’s unbelievable. We were going for Fabio today but it was really hectic in the finale and he told me to go for it myself in the sprint. I had to open really and it came so much as a shock that I almost forgot to celebrate. Then it’s just incredible that I came over the finish line and I saw Fabio come around me to take the second place. Today the key point was to get into the downhill in a good position. The whole team did amazing. We came in exactly like planned, had a kick to come out of the u-turn and Bram came to the front like we planned. I let a couple of guys in front of me to not catch too much wind and open the sprint too early. I think it shows a new class to this team today how we rode. At the end Fabio congratulated me and he was just as happy as I was today; he is a class guy. We’re looking forward to the next sprints this weekend but tomorrow we will go all-in for Frank and support him as best as possible.”

Team dsm-firmenich PostNL coach Roy Curvers added: “It was a great team effort again today. We knew it was going to be a challenging final with the kickers and twisty last kilometres, but we kept our heads cool and communicated well. In the end we got a little held up so we couldn’t do the lead-out for Fabio as we originally planned, but the guys reacted really quickly and smartly on the road, and luckily we could come out and grab another win together. It’s another really good day for us.”
