Today has seen another great performance by our Women’s program at the hilly second stage. Looking well after each other throughout the day, they brought Francesca Barale and Nienke Vinke into the reduced sprint in the perfect position, seeing the sprinting into fourth and eleventh on the day. With only one stage to go, Francesca also took over the lead in the young riders classification, while she is also sitting in seventh place in GC, while Nienke is currently in tenth place. Unfortunately, Maeve Plouffe had to step off the bike today, still suffering from the impact of yesterday’s crash.
After the stage, Barale said: “It was great another team effort today because the girls kept me in position the whole day, and we were always together. Franzi and Eleonora then positioned us really well towards the finish. I believe I showed a good sprint when I look at who is in front of me in the end, and it’s nice to secure the white jersey as well. We will try to keep that tomorrow. I am really happy about today, even though it is a little bittersweet due to the fourth-place finish, as we also had an eye on bonus seconds for the GC.”
