Stage 4 of Paris – Nice was the first real climbing test of the race with seven categorised climbs, the last of which took the riders to the line in Mont Brouilly. The goal for the day was to reach the finish safely as a team and by the end of the stage, Martijn Tusveld was first home for the team in 90th place on what was a day to navigate before those to come.
Following the stage, Team dsm-firmenich PostNL coach Pim Ligthart said: “When we did not make the day’s breakaway, we decided to already look ahead to tomorrow’s stage and to save as much energy as possible. This is something that we managed well by the end of the stage.”
