Before going into a short break from racing, the Development Team dsm-firmenich PostNL took on the opening stage of the Ronde de l’Oise today. In rainy conditions, the peloton tackled the 140 kilometres before the race was decided in a bunch sprint. After riding well together all day, they suffered some bad luck in the final with some crashes and being boxed in. Ultimately, this led to no result today, but the team is ready to bounce back in the following days.
After the stage, Johan Dorussen said: “The race was really wet with a lot of rain all day. We showed good teamwork throughout the day and all six riders were ready to cover any attacks going. We were at the front jumping the whole race but no one got away in the end. With seven kilometres to go, we were setting up for a sprint with Benjamin but unfortunately, he crashed coming into the final five kilometres where Axel and Mees got held up as well. So it was only Milan and me at the front left at the front going into the sprint. We couldn’t go for the sprint because we were boxed in and with only Milan, it was hard to fight against the other sprinttrains. In general, we still showed a good race with some learning points for tomorrow’s stage, where we will go for it again.”
