The Team dsm-firmenich PostNL Women’s program was back in action at Ronde van Vlaanderen today, for the last flemish classic of the season. After some nice weather at the start, it started raining throughout the day. The wet roads made the race even more challenging and chaotic, but the girls stayed calm and rode well together ahead of the key points. Going into the Koppenberg, they brought Pfeiffer Georgi into a great position and she was taking on the climb as one of the first riders. Unfortunately, a crash happened just ahead of her and she had to unclip from her pedals and walk up the rest of the climb. From there on she found herself in a chasing group, giving it all to make it back to the front. They made it back just before the final ascent of the Oude Kwaremont where she had to let it go. She could make it into a bigger chasing group and sprinted third from the group, which was a fine 13th place on the day.
After the race, Pfeiffer said: “The girls did an amazing job with keeping me in position for the first part of the race, but unfortunately I had to walk up Koppenberg and was in the small chase group after this. We rejoined the front on Kwaremont but I just didn’t have the legs to follow anymore. But I gave it everything so I have no regrets and will look ahead to the next big races in Roubaix and Amstel.”
