The third day of racing at Tour de Bretagne saw the peloton take on a rolling day in the saddle, where the road was constantly going up or down on the narrow Brittany roads. Development Team dsm-firmenich PostNL were represented in the first main big break of the day with Axel Källberg but unfortunately their group was only ever given one minute and brought back. The attacks started all over again and in the end a new group managed to escape, without any representation from the team. The squad tried to chase it back but the gap soon grew too big, and more counter attacks flew, with Källberg ultimately leading the team home in a chasing group that was one minute and 30 behind the winner.
Källberg explained: “It was a really hard day on the bike today; just full gas from start to finish. I got into a big breakaway about 20 kilometres into the stage but it sadly got brought back after only 80 kilometres raced. After that, the jumping and attacking started over again. It was a really intense period. We somehow managed to miss a big group that went up the road which in the end made it all the way to the finish. On the local laps I made it into a chasing group but we couldn’t catch the first group. Overall, it’s disappointing day for us as we lost the fight for the GC today but we will regroup and regather, and try to make the most out of the days to come.”
