After yesterday’s opening time trial, the Team dsm-firmenich PostNL Women’s program tackled the first road stage of the Tour de Normandie Féminin today. Following solid teamwork throughout the day, the team found themselves in a favorable position for the final push to the finish line. While two riders managed to stay away after a late attack, Nienke Vinke sprinted to a commendable eighth place from the chasing peloton. After two days of racing, Daniek Hengeveld holds a solid fourth place in the GC, while Nienke sits in tenth place.
Reflecting on the stage, Nienke Vinke remarked, “It was a windy and rainy day today. We anticipated echelons throughout the day, but they didn’t materialize. So, we focused on the sprint for Josie. Unfortunately, she got cramps, so we changed the plan last minute. The final was challenging with a hectic and stressful descent directly leading into the final climb. The girls positioned me well for the climb, and after that, it was about following and giving my best in the sprint. It wasn’t really a final that suits my strengths, but I gave it my all.”
