The third stage of the Volta ao Algarve offered the final chance for the sprinters to get a stage win this week. The team came into the final two kilometres in a good position but they lost each other in the technical and fast run-in and couldn’t compete for the stage win.
Speaking after the race, John Degenkolb said: “Today was quite a disappointment – We made some wrong decisions in the run-in and couldn’t set up a nice sprint for Casper in the end. This is a shame since this was also our last opportunity for a sprint this week. We will do a good debrief of the day and then conclude this week in a good way with the TT tomorrow and the final summit finish on Sunday.”
