Warren Barguil: “It was nice to go all out in the finale, but this was not my speciality parcours”

After the sprint stage on Saturday, the peloton awaited a more punchy parcours with a summit finish atop the Qurayyat. Three riders tried their luck and went clear, whilst the team looked after each other in the peloton, keeping the climbers safe for the apotheosis of the stage. Being positioned well at the foot of the Qurayyat, Warren Barguil gave it his all to the line and finished just outside the top 10.

 

After the stage, Barguil commented: “It was a punchy day with a lot of rain coming down. Today’s stage is not my speciality parcours with one steep climb in the finale, but it was nice to go all out to the finish line. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the team the whole day, so thanks to them. I was too far behind when the sprint started in the last 500 metres, so I couldn’t get a top result here. When we came to Oman I didn’t feel one hundred per cent fit, but I’m improving every day since, so I’m looking forward to the coming stages”.
